Hypnotic AI: Alien Mind States of Alien Creatures

Stauffer Communication Arts B (STAUF-B) – B135, Media Lab

Saturday 28th, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Ania Malinowska (University of Silesia)
Przemysław Jasielski (Independent Artist, Poland)

The workshop presents Hypnotic AI: an art-based (and technologically generated) hypnotic loop between a person and a computer system during which the participants will interact with artificial intelligence by means of hypnotic induction. Anchored in clinical hypnosis and deep learning, this workshop aims to explore the idea of the alien state of consciousness based on the clash of two intelligences: that of an AI system and that of a human. It probes the idea of alien intelligence that Luciana Parisi calls “the alien subject of AI”. Using Parisi’s idea of intelligent reciprocity, this workshop will reverse the trajectories of deep learning that traditionally go from the human to the machine and demonstrate how “the computer to operate for us first requires a wealth of interactions to take place for itself” (Bogost). Those interactions will create a new semantic field to learn from presented visually (on a screen) and information about the input of each individual interaction.
